I guess that its a busy time of year for you, I need to spend more time in the garden tidying up. I suspect that we all have too many projects and too little time. When you find some time we will get some comms with your ECU.

To get comms on pin 9 you will need to modify the circuit. Firstly the 4k7 resistors should be connected to 5V and not 12V then you will need to add a comparator, something like an LM2901 with the reference voltage set to 2.5V, you can divide that down from the 5V supply. Ideally you should add some hysteresis as well, take a look at my schematic, there are values shown there. You won't be able to copy my circuit exactly because the logic levels are inverted within the FTDI chip.

I promise I will get that ecu out of the car so you can check it:)

Unfortunately I didnt have the right tools available yesterday.

I tried to loosen the screws (the 3 screw which holds the ecu housing to the case)  but they are pretty much fixed (i'm not a weak guy:), also its preatty hard to reach because of the cables...:S

The one that I looked at was a 68E40, which is a very similar part number but that one was OBD2?

I finished the max232 circuit and as TheZuke confirmed it doesnt workno

Anyways, based on the ecu number is it the same as what you have mentioned?

pin7: 0 Volts

If it was OBD2 then I would expect there to be 12V on this pin.

1st mission failedsmileblankstare, I didnt manage to get the ecu out of the car...

2nd: the voltage levels are the following relative to gnd (pin5):

pin7: 0 Volts, pin9: 5 Volts, pin16: 12 Volts

The text on the ECU line by line(the pic I took is horrible, I had only my cell at me..):

A0

1.0 MT EEC

[33920-68E0] <-black bg & 0

WB112000-4424

12V - Denso - Spain

A pic of the ECU and its circuit board would be good, then I can compare it with one thta I have already looked at.

I'm gonna check the voltage levels on the pins and I will let you know asap.

Dou you need a pic from my ECU's circuit or from the elm327 device's circuit?

On the diagnostic socket do you have 12V on pin 7 and 5V on pin 9?

Can you send me a picture of the circuit board?  The circuit board usually has the connector pin names marked on the PCB, you should be able to see if the components for the OBD2 interface are fitted.

I bought a few months ago an ELM327 OBD2 scanner, but I didnt manage to connect to my car with it. I tried a lot of softwares, modiag, elmscan, obdspy.... none worked:((

My car was made in 1999. sept.  I tried it on a younger suzu, made in 2001.aug, 1.0 GLX (which officially should be OBD2) but didnt work for that either.

By the way, the above mentioned progs support KWP2000 fast init. I tried the progs with automatic protocol searches and manual but still not okay.

My last hope is your site:)

You have pin 7 populated so the ECU should be OBD2. I have had a 2001 Swift Euro 4 ECU connected to a cheap ebay code reader, the protocol was KWP2000 fast init. I was also able to connect on pin 9 using the SDL software, SDL is used for the actuator tests on the OBD2 models.

 Hi TheZuke:)

I will give it a try, but as I wrote to Rhinoman I too think that the voltage levels will not be okay...

Anyway, this interface worths to be built as it is good for Skoda, VW, Opel ...

Cheers

You will have to use the MAX circuit with a USB-serial converter, the PC serial port doesn't support the baud rates used in vehicle diagnostics. The voltage levels on that circuit are all wrong so that may not work anyway.

On your OBD2 socket which pins are populated?

Hi Rhinoman:)

I have the 3 cylinder engine, and it was built in Hungary. This car was my dream:)

I also tried your prog but unfortunately I didnt succed with it. For this I have 2 comment which might be useful for others as well:) :

1., The 2 transistor interface doesnt work

2., I will finish the max232 type this week and I will let you know if its OK with your prog.

I attached the schematics, if your're intrested. :0c256ed4b897a1b75602dfc706b83669.jpg

Keep up the good work, best suzu diag site ever!!!!

BR, Gábor

Welcome to the board, some work has already been done on the 1.0 Swift. Do you have the 4-cylinder engine or the 3-cylinder? Was your Swift built in Hungary?

Hi Guys,

My (real) name is Gábor and I'm from Hungary.

I'm 25 years old, I work as a Supplier Quality Assurance Enginner.

I'm a proud owner of a 1999 Suzuki Swift 1.0 GL. I'm really happy that I found this site as it contains more information about Suzu diag as the other sites together!!
