Rhinoview SDL interface installation in Windows 7.

Step by step Instalation guide for simple folk like me.

Installation steps.

1.   Select a dedicated folder on your laptop.  Create as necessary.

2.   Download the Rhinoview##.zip file from the Rhinopower.org website into your dedicated folder.

3.   Extract all the contents of the zip file into the dedicated folder.  If a previous version exists, choose the ‘override all’ option.

4.   When executing the Rhinoview.exe program your security application may flag Rinoview.exe as potentially harmful and ask if you trust this program.  Answer yes if you wish to use Rhinoview.

5.   If you have been supplied with a Config.zip file for your version/vehicle place this file in your dedicated folder.  Extract the contents into the subsidiary Bin folder created by the above Rhinoview extraction.  If a previous version exists, choose the ‘override all’ option.

6.   If you are connected to the internet, plug your USB SDL interface cable into your Windows 7 computer and let Windows automatically find and install a suitable driver.  This may take several minutes.  Windows 7 should find a suitable driver and will install two devices, a USB Serial Converter and a USB Serial Port with the COM## it has allocated.  Take a note of the COM port number then close the driver installation window.

7.   If a suitable driver cannot be found, follow the AN_119_FTDI_Drivers_Installation_Guide_for_Windows7.PDF  and Install the FTDI VCP drivers using the driver CDM20824_Setup.exe.  Find the virtual com port created using the device manager as shown in the AN_119_FTDI_Drivers_Installation_Guide_for_Windows7.PDF  The driver and the PDF guide can be downloaded from the FTDI website http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm

8.   Run Rhinoview.exe which displays the Rhinopower Virtual Dashboard V### dashboard.

9.   Select the comms tab.

10.Select Settings.

11.Select the com port you just created from the drop down list in the first field in the Settings window.

12.Click OK in the Comms window to write the COM port setting to disk.

13.Exit the Rhinopower Virtual Dashboard V###

14.Run Rhinoview.exe which displays the Rhinopower Virtual Dashboard V###.

15.Ensure that the two parts of the USB SDL interface are joined correctly.

16.Plug the USB end into a USB socket.

17.Plug the 16 pin end of the USB SDL interface into the vehicle Data Link Connector.

18.Turn the ignition on.

19.Ensure that the Rhinopower Virtual Dashboard V### shows “Connected” on the bottom line of the window, and that the rest of the data on that line is reasonable and the ECU ID is shown.

20. If Rhinoview does not show “Connected” select the comms tab in Rhinoview then select the ‘Connect’ option.  This connects Rhinoview with the COM port.
