As far as I can tell an 83 is displayed by the ECU when it cannot communicate with the Immobilizer, via the serial data link - the troubleshooting seems to focus on either a short to ground or an open circuit (broken wire) of the serial data link, followed by replacement of the ECU & immobilizer modules.
PM me an email address and I'll send you the relevant section of the manual.
I'm Rob from Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. The southernmost city in Patagonia.
I have an almost mint conditions Suzuki Grand Vitara 2002 with the Mazda RF engine.
I'm really in love with this vehicle. (I like her more than my 2011 1.8T Jetta, but keep it secret...)
Since 15 days ago, I'm not able to start the engine. The glow light is flashing all the time since I put the key in the ignition cylinder.
I followed the instructions published in this site, to activate the diagnosis using the glow light to se the error code.
I get the error code #83. From this site, I learned that error means "Serial Data Link".
Can any one of you tell me what that means?
What steps should I follow to fix the problem?
I found in other sites, something about to recode the immobilizer with the ECU, or to recode the key with the immo, or to recode everything.
And after 14 hours searching for data in internet, I found the error code P1621 seams to be similar to the error code #83, but the description code for the P1621 is "No ECU code transmitted from immobilizer control module"
So, is there any cutted wire or something inbetween the immobilizer and the ECU?
