Thanks James I've worked pretty hard on it over the years, as i said yesterday ive still got plenty to do to get it 'finished' though. I just can't wait to get the j20a in then it will be a whole new beast.
Cool, I asked the guy and he says that the ECU is out of a 2000 manual so I might just go for it on the chance that it's the one I need, the numbers are very similar to my ECU as well so it's worth a punt at the price it's up for. Might have to get one of your scan tools off you at some point as well, looks like a useful bit of kit!

Ive just spotted an ECU on eBay that I hope is the OBD1 ECU out of a manual, the part number is 33920-65DG0 could you confirm if that is the one that I will need please?
Awesome, sounds good I will be honest I havent actually crawled underneath to check if there is a 2nd o2 sensor.
I'll get the ECU number on saturday when I'm next in the workshop and yes it does still run. I've mostly just been stripping cosmetic stuff at the moment so I can still move it around.
It should make the install a bit easier if I don't have to run the cat as ill have more room to route the exhaust between the chassis rails.
2000 should be OBD1 anyway, have a look at the back of the cat to see if there is a second O2 sensor. I can match the immo and keys, what is the part number of the ECU? does it run at the moment?

Well I now have the GV2000 in my workshop and I'm in the process of stripping it so will be looking for a manual ECU and have the auto ECU needing a new home soon.
I was wondering about running a decat but I'm aware that these systems runs an O2 sensor before and after the cat so I'm presuming the ECU won't like me running a decat system without the second O2 sensor. I'm fitting it to a 1987 vehicle so only need to meet 3.5% CO and 1200PPM so is anything that I can do to trick the ECU and still meet these emissions limits. Could I just run an 02 simulator or is there an alternative way to solve the problem?

Salisbury plain Is always good, they've improved the signage a lot over the last few months so It's a lot easier to navigater now and it's also meant that we've found some good new routes. There's loads of good routes around the swindon area so you won't be short of lanes to check out
I haven't been to foxham for years, it's ok, lots of mud holes if you like that sort of thing but not enough technical stuff for me really. I might actually have to head up to there sometime to see if it's changed at all.
I've done a few sections of the Ridgeway and some trails across Salisbury Plain. I used to do a lot around Surrey when I lived in Crawley and I've done a few lanes around Wales and even some in Sweden but I haven't done any lanes around here yet, I keep driving past Byways and adding them to my list of lanes to check out once the Vit is sorted. Have you been to Foxham? thats very close to me although I've heard very little about it.

Yes, I just saw your location on suzukiclubuk. I'm hoping to get my Vit back on the road once the weather warms up a bit so maybe we can do some lanes this summer. I'll need to fit it in around this years main project which is having builit an extension with a double garage mud is alright for driving in but its not a great workplace for working under Zuks.

Welcome to the forum, thats a good project, I've not seen anyone in the UK do that swap yet. You would be better off running the manual ECU, I think the auto ECU will throw a MIL warning for the auto functions but on the GV the auto functions are all on a seperate connector so its not too bad to seperate out the wires from the loom if you need to. The manual ECU would need to be coded to the immo or you would need to buy a matched set, I may be able to do you a deal on a swap, the auto ECU may be useful to me while I'm developing a new scan tool.

I'm Scott and own/run www.suzukiclubuk.co.uk It's mailnly an LJ & SJ website and Forum but we're trying to get more Vitara in Jimny owners involved.
Thought I'd introduce myself because if all goes to plan I will be starting a J20a conversion in my 87 SJ410 later in the year so I'll probably need a bit of help with the wiring etc.
My first question is that the GV2000 I might be buying is an Auto and I was hoping to mate it to my existing Vitara 5speed manual using a modified flywheel, Will I need an ECU from a Manual GV2000 for this as I understand that the ECU controls the Auto gearbox as well.
Here's the SJ that I am planning on fitting the J20a into, currently running a 1.6 8V on an SU carb, Vit gearbox and twin transfer boxes, YJ springs and 33s.
That sounds good, both my father and girlfriend have SJs and I have a few friends in Swindon with them so we go out laning quite often, there's loads of good lanes in this part of the country. Have you been out on the Marlborough and lambourne downs? I presume you've driven the ridgeway? That's always a nice drive in the summer tell me about it, it's never nice working underneath a mud covered 4x4.

Thanks for the welcome, that's actually one of the reasons that I want to go down the J20a route, it would be easy for me to throw in a G16 16v but I like a challenge and don't think I have seen it done in the UK yet either.
I had a feeling that it would be best for me to run the ECU from a manual, so if you would be interested in the auto ECU then Im sure we can come to an arrangement. If all goes to plan ill be collecting the GV on friday and I don't live that far from you either. My plan is to get the engine all set up and running on a stand before actually fitting it so that my SJ isn't off the road for long.
