Yours is not a conventional application so its a little difficult to comment. If you do have a problem with an airlock then it may be worth running the engine with the pressure cap off until the thermostat opens, often this is enough to allow any trapped air to be be expelled. I would also try running with the overflow unplugged to see if thats causing any issues, have you checked that the pressure cap has the correct rating?

One more thing I forget to mention, once the motor overheats, you can see the coolant is much higher in the resevoir. After it cools enough to open the top of the expansion tank, you can pump the lower hose and sometimes get air out of the system (the coolant level drops quite a bit).... hummmmmm

Greetings, I found out why the engine was randomly cutting out (a previous post) and it was the simplest of things. The gound wire for the injector module was attached to the top shock bolt and when the plane would take off, something about the way the suspension flexed, caused the ground to be briefly interupted. That caused the SDS computer to reset and the engine to lose all power. Once we rewired the ground directly to the neg battery terminal, the problem has not repeated itself in 20+ T&G's. Now I am having another intermittent issue.
I start up the plane and the engine will warm up to 180 degress in just a few minutes and you can watch the temperature fall to 170, then climb back up to 180 as the termostat open. It can fly it for a long time in the air, but when doing repeated touch and goes, the engine will overheat. If the temperature gets up to around 195 -200 degrees, it will then shoot up in just a few seconds to 220. 240, 260. Very Quickly!!!! It has been suggested that I change out the thermostat, or just leave it out. Would that really make a difference if I can see it is opening up? The motor utilizes a round expansion tank from a VW rabbit, but the overflow tube has been plugged with a bolt because apparently it is not necessay on this application.
