I know about the diagnostic connector with 4 pins which can be found in the motor compartment, I have used it to connect the diagnostic pin to the ground pin on another occasion to read the code however this time there is no connection. The code flashes all the time even if there is no service wire connecting the pins. This is what puzzles me.
If you're getting a Code 12 (no error) there is nothing to reset - the check engine light should go out once the engine has been started, although if you leave the diagnostic jumper in, it will continue to flash - this is normal - just remove the jumper and store for the next time you need it.
I decided to move outside the noise, agitation and stress of the city to a remotely place in the mountains. After 2 years of search I finally found a remote place with a superb view and not so great road and in the process bought a Suzuki Vitara 1.6, G16A from 1991 to take me there and back. It's a robust car but at this age problems appeared quickly so I ended up reading about Check Engine Light codes and so on. Now after some work on the corroded gas pump connections CEL flashes 12 (no error). Could not reset it after unplugging the negative cable for a whole night (much more than the recomended 60s). I would be very interested to buy the pre OBD2 cable to play with it (since I am a software engineer at base) or have an android app to check the engine on the hill :)
